Celebrities are not necessarily heroes! A hero is one who goes above and beyond the call of duty in pursuit of the highest values without reference to his own life or personal interest. She does not seek to be on page 3; rather she shuns publicity because she believes deep down in her soul that duty to the larger, loftier good is her first responsibility; and so she shuns publicity…like the NSG commandos who quietly arrived on the scene during the Mumbai attacks of 26/11, did their duty to deadly effect, made the supreme sacrifice (Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan) and melted away into anonymity without the false thunder and lightning of press conferences… like the 527 bravehearts who chose to guard Kargil, Dras, Batalik and other frozen moonscapes with their lives in May-July 1999.. like Col B Santosh Babu who led the 16 Bihar Regiment fearlessly in Galwan on 15 June 2020….& Sepoy Gurtej Singh who on June 15 2020 ferociously, singlehandedly took down 12 Chinese intruders….celestial sentinels who decimated the enemy even as they laid down their lives in the highest traditions of the Indian Army…like countless, faceless women who nourish their loved ones with their daily sacrifices…like unknown, courageous COVID warriors who give their everything to protect others…these are the true role models, the heroes… not tinsel town tenants or verbose TV personalities or politicians with forked tongues!
